About Jess

Jess Perkins, Owner and Founder of Shape Up Personal Training is a Cambridge-based personal trainer whose clients include men, women (including brides-to-be looking for glistening wedding day fitness), adolescents, individuals in training, or those simply pushing toward a more ambitious, stronger workout. With more than fourteen years in the fitness industry, Jess’ dynamic approach, boundless energy and natural connection with people sets her apart.

Through a variety of innovative fitness techniques that combine physical as well as mental stimulation, Jess is recognized for her expertise in functional training and creating a look that is more tone and trim than bulk and build. For females she draws from the very physiques that inspire her; athletic, elegant, and toned, while still feminine. For males, she avoids excess mass in favor of a fit, lean appearance.

Before striking out on her own, Jess taught ticketed-out classes for Healthworks Fitness Centers and the Mount Auburn Club.

Every bride is different and so is the Fit To Be Bride program. Each program is designed to address the needs of the bride-to-be whether it’s to shape-up, trim and tone, lose a dress size, reduce stress, or just to have “me time.”

3 month FTBB package:

  • Aerobics and other Cardiovascular activity geared to get the furnace inside burning efficiently and kick up cardiovascular conditioning.
  • Weight Training using the most cutting-edge functional and fitness equipment available.
  • Core Conditioning to develop and sculpt the abdominals, as well as improving posture.
  • Food Diary Tracking to develop better eating habits and promote weight loss.

Also included in 3-month package:

  • Exercise Tubing w/door attachment
  • 2 Free Zumba classes per week (see schedule for dates/times)
  • Shape-Up T-Shirt

Fitness Tips

DO YOUR WORKOUT IN THE MORNING: If you work out in the morning there are fewer distractions, fewer things coming at you because the rest of the world is still asleep. Even people with the best intentions can be derailed by one e-mail, one cranky spouse, one sick kid, one happy hour, and that’s just not going to happen in the morning. Besides giving you more energy and freeing up your evenings, a morning workout could even help curb your food cravings. It sets the table to help you make better choices throughout the day.

STAY HYDRATED: Drink more water - This is so incredibly important. I feel many people are walking around dehydrated. There are so many benefits to drinking water. Your skin will look better, you will feel less bloated, and you will metabolize fat better. Drinking water also helps you feel full. You want to drink 64 oz of water or 2 big bottles (not med.)
